Probe Into Deadly Bryan Fire Delayed

An investigation into a deadly fire in Bryan will taken longer than originally thought because of other major events in the state.

According to the state fire marshal's office, their probe into February's fire at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bryan isn't expected to be done until the beginning of next year.

Originally, officials said it was supposed to be completed in six months, but because of the explosion at the fertilizer plant in West and another deadly fire in Houston, the process has been slowed down.

Bryan fire lieutenants Eric Wallace and Greg Pickard were killed in the fire. Firefighters Ricky Mantey and Mitch Moran were critically injured, but are recovering.

The department's investigation showed a a faulty cord in the kitchen sparked the fire.

Among the many fundraising efforts that have resulted since the incident, part of the money from this weekend's Texas Reds Steak and Grape Festival in the downtown area will be donated in honor of those lost and injured.
