Thanks to the recent rains, Lake Somerville is just nine inches shy of reaching full capacity.

Whether you happen to be on shore, on deck or in the water, the trend on Lake Somerville is all the same.

“We caught two so far and we’re trying to catch a little bit more," said Houston resident Timothy Brinson.

Spring break is officially underway. With time on his side, Houston resident Timothy Brinson is reeling in his week of freedom catching catfish and crappie on the lake.

“We’ve been out here since 9 a.m. and it’s been kind of slow, but we’re really hoping to catch more to bring home for dinner,” said Brinson.

The lake level has come a long way since December.

“We reached our historic low in the middle of December which was 10.5 feet low,” said Ernest Eberle, U.S. Corps of Engineers.

“I've been coming up here for ten years and it's never been that low,” said Brinson. “Over the summer we were on the boat just cruising along and we hit a sandbar and had to get someone to help us pull the boat back to shore."

Eberle says the lake is nine inches shy of reaching full capacity; it's a positive sign he hopes will reel in more visitors.

“Here we are in spring break and all of the camps sites within the Corps of Engineer parks are booked,” said Eberle. "It's great."

Eberle expects the lake level to return to normal capacity by next week.
