When the Texas A&M football team took the field for its first Big 12 game back on September 28th, 1996 the team officially began its life after the Southwest Conference.

12th ranked Colorado came into Kyle Field and spoiled that special start by defeating the Aggies 24-10. However, just two years later, the Aggies would take the conference's biggest crown.

In 1998 at the Big 12 Championship game, the Aggies won a double overtime thriller to win their first and only Big 12 title game. Texas A&M finished the season with an 11-3 record, their best finish ever while in the Big 12.

But 1999 would prove to be much harder for the Aggie family. After the tragic bonfire collapse, Texas A&M was able to regroup and take down 7th ranked Texas 20 to 16 and finished the year with an 8-4 record.

Today, under the leadership of athletic director Bill Byrne and head coach Mike Sherman, Aggie football has re-emerged as one of the top programs in the country and is ranked in the Top 10 for the first time since 1999.

But it's not just football that's had its special moments during the Aggies run in the Big 12.

Over the past three years, Texas A&M has won eight NCAA National Championships, including the defending national champion Texas A&M women's basketball team.

The Texas A&M men's and women's track teams have won multiple Big 12 and back to back to back national titles.

And who could forget Acie Law's three pointer at the buzzer to beat Texas in 2006, or the six Big 12 titles the Texas A&M baseball team has been able to garner.

The A&M equestrian team's nine national titles, including three straight championships from 2009 to 2011.

While the tennis, golf, softball, and soccer teams have all seen their fare share of success.

In fact over the past five years, Texas A&M has raked up 32 Big 12 Championships, 55 overall since the inception of the Big 12.

It all adds up to an incredible run in the Big 12 for Texas A&M with a new future in the SEC on the horizon.
