Register for the 2012 Scott and White B/CS Marathon + Half Marathon

Updated: Wed 12:27 PM, Oct 10, 2012

Tuesday afternoon more than 200 people registered The Scott and White B/CS Marathon + Half Marathon.

The marathon is exactly 207 days away and organizers of the race are anticipating a much bigger turnout than last year.

“The cap for runners this year has been raised from 1,500 to 4, 000,” said Lindsey Joy, Scott & White Healthcare. “We had 150 people register online this morning and we fully anticipate hitting that cap.”

Scott and White has also partnered with a majority of schools in B/CS to bring a new component to the race this year: a kid marathon.

“The kids’ marathon is a new component and will be a 1.2 mile run and it will be the day before the marathon so it doesn't interfere with the marathon,” said Lindsey Joy with Scott and White. “The children are actually being trained in many of the schools in our area because it's so important for the kids to learn about being active. So they will get to learn and train in the fall and it will end with the large race in the summer.”

The marathon and half marathon will be held on Sunday, December 9th at 7 in the morning. It begins at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station. If you register early, the half marathon is $55 and the full marathon is $70.

Aid stations will be every 1.5 miles and include both water and sports drink, and on-course entertainment will include live music. The time limit for completing the marathon is six and a half hours. The course closes on a rolling schedule based on a 15:00 per mile pace (6 hours and 30 minutes total).

All runners will receive a technical shirt, a custom medal, long-sleeve cotton participant’s shirt, a goody bag, and post-race food and beer. All proceeds from the race will benefit three local non-profit organizations: Mercy Project, the Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley and SOS Ministries.
