Sandra Lopez has been a tireless advocate for justice for her daughter Alexia, since she was murdered four years ago.
Her efforts have brought to light the death of her daughter, allegedly at the hands of her baby sitter, Berny Figueroa, and also raised awareness about violence committed against children.

Now the Wells Of Wisdom website has recognized Ms. Lopez with its first SWAG Award. The award, Serving While Acknowledging God, is a weekly award given to a man and woman doing 'outstanding things in their chosen profession, while acknowledging God as the source of their success.' Ms. Lopez said she was 'floored and honored at the award." She had a special word of praise for the website's founder, the Rev. Randy Wells.

Ms. Lopez recently commemorated the death of her daughter on March 11th, 2008. She said it was time for them to have a more private commemoration of her daughter's death this year.
Alexia died hours after her mother picked her up from a child care home run by Berny Figueroa. Alexia was having trouble breathing and had begun to throw up. Ms. Lopez took her daughter to the Emergency Room, where she died of a ruptured liver, allegedly inflicted by a blow to her stomach.

Figueroa was soon named the chief suspect in the murder, but she fled soon after she was named as a suspect. A vigilant four year search by law enforcement officers, a story on America's Most Wanted, and by the Lopez family has failed to find Figueroa.
Lopez continues to have hope that this case will be resolved.

The SWAG Award notes that Lopez began a ministry 'Justice for Alexia' . She has worked with the Washington County Domestic Violence Task Force, Faith Mission and other groups.
The 'Wells of Wisdom' website is a vision of the Rev. Randy Wells who has been working with Faith Mission, along with being an assistant pastor at St. John's AME Church in Brenham, since he moved to Brenham from New Orleans in advanced of Hurricane Katrina.
