Dr. Vince P. Schielack, associate professor of mathematics at Texas A&M University, has been selected by The Texas A&M University System as a 2012-2013 member of the Chancellor’s Academy of Teacher Educators, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of teacher education across the Texas A&M System.

Schielack, a 1978 Texas A&M mathematics graduate and 30-year expert in mathematics education, joins Dr. Karen Sue Bradley, Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Dr. Ashley Campbell, West Texas A&M University; Dr. James Edward Gentry, Tarleton State University; and Dr. Barbara Hammack, Texas A&M University-Commerce as the latest inductees into the elite educator group, established in 2011 to highlight the Texas A&M System’s role in producing K-12 teachers for the state of Texas.

“Through his teaching, scholarship and service related to teacher preparation, Dr. Vince Schielack has been and continues to be a critical contributor to the strength of Texas A&M University’s teacher preparation program, particularly in the area of preparing secondary mathematics teachers,” said Dr. H. Joseph Newton, dean of the Texas A&M College of Science. “He is very deserving of being named to the Chancellor’s Academy of Teacher Educators.”

Academy members each receive a $1,000 stipend, a commemorative medallion, a certificate and recognition at the Chancellor’s Century Council Annual Banquet, scheduled for Friday, March 1 in Austin and featuring a keynote address by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. Nominees must be full-time faculty members from any A&M System university who have made a significant impact on teacher preparation.
