Authorities in Washington State are scaling back their search for an Aggie from this area who went missing on a river near his Air Force base.
James Adam Lassiter, a local home school student-turned-cadet in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, had gone to the Spokane River in eastern Washington Saturday to go canoeing, according to authorities there.
Search crews were deployed Monday when Lassiter did not show up to work. They found his truck Monday at a park along the river, but have been unable to locate the Airman First Class or his canoe.
Due to rising river levels that have made conditions unsafe for crews, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office says search operations are being scaled back for the time being. Authorities are continuing to ask for residents there to be on the lookout for any signs of Lassiter.
He was part of the Class of 2008 at A&M. While he did not commission as an officer, Lassiter did enlist in the Air Force. He was assigned to a training group at Fairchild Air Force Base just outside of Spokane, which is near the Washington-Idaho border.
