Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk recently attended the Western States Sheriffs' Association (WSSA) Annual Conference. The membership of WSSA consists of sheriffs from thirteen western states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
During the conference Sheriff Kirk was elected to the position of President for the Executive Board of the Western States Sheriffs' Association. Kirk will serve that position for 2012 - 2013.
The conference agenda included management training presentations, conducting the annual business meeting, reports on committee activities, trade show with vendor exhibitions of services and equipment related to law enforcement and jail services, and an opportunity to net-work with other sheriffs.

The mission of the Western States Sheriff’s Association is to assist Sheriffs and their Offices with Federal and State legislative issues, address policy and procedural matters, develop guidelines to promote uniformity in matters that are important to Sheriffs of the Western United States and to work together to keep the Office of Sheriff strong.
