The man who plunged a knife into a 12-year-old girl's stomach at a College Station restaurant will now serve prison time.

John Robert Murphy III, 24, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the crime, and will be eligible for parole after serving half the sentence.

Back in January 2011, Murphy walked into the McDonald's at Wellborn Road and George Bush Drive and stabbed the daughter of a store employee. The girl survived, and Murphy was later arrested in the Houston area.

Murphy was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2009, and Houston police records showed he had been off his medication for a year prior to the stabbing.
