Texas A&M Police say an A&M student has been arrested for assaulting a female student in his dorm room and choking a man who tried to intervene.
Investigators say early Tuesday morning, Stephen Jon Vaneau held a t-shirt over another female student's face, and prevented her from breathing. They say he also grabbed and tried to restrain her. A second male student is believed by police to have been assaulted by Vaneau after they say that student tried to intervene and diffuse the situation. The second male student reportedly suffered injuries to his throat and neck, which police attribute to Vaneau.
Police say a handgun was found inside his residence hall room at the time of the investigation. Stephen Vaneau has been charged with three felonies, including assault of a family member - impeding breathing, unlawful restraint, and carrying a weapon in a prohibited place. He has also been charged with assault causing bodily injury, which is a Class B Misdemeanor.
Each felony charge is punishable by up to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Police say Vaneau was arrested Tuesday afternoon and booked into the Brazos County Jail.
Texas A&M University records list a Stephen Jon Vaneau as being a Junior Computer Engineering major.
