Suspect in Custody: -Howard Lewis, 46 -Investigators found Lewis' DNA in the House where murder happened -No clear motive -Ongoing issue about Lewis paying child support

The Walker County Sheriff's Office says a father strangled his toddler and beat his former mother-in-law to death.

Deputies arrested Howard Wayne Lewis on Wednesday for the murders of 18-month old Aiden Lewis and 55-year-old Shanta Faye Crawford.

"I could sit here and say I wish he was dead and call him all sorts of crazy names," said Donea Kimbrough, Crawford's niece. "It wouldn't change anything. It wouldn't change what he did."

The killings happened July 24 near Huntsville. State troopers tell us the Aiden's grandfather and husband of Crawford found their bodies and called 911.

"To me, it's senseless," said Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae. "It has been determined that Lewis' DNA was found on an unnamed article that was left behind at the crime scene, which we feel directly tied Lewis to the homicide."

Lewis is being held on a $1 million bond.

The Texas Rangers, Walker County Sheriff's Office, Walker County D.A. and DPS have all been involved in investigating this case.
