Dereon Tayronne Kelley has been arrested and charged for a felony violation of the Federal Explosive Materials Statute, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today.

Kelley, a 22-year-old resident of Bryan, has been accused of using the Internet to convey a false threat involving an explosive device in order to intimidate individuals at Texas State University. Kelly was also suspected of emailing a bomb threat to Texas A&M.

Kelley made his initial appearance in federal court in Houston after he was arrested yesterday.

Kelley was already under arrest in connection with a bomb threat emailed to Texas A&M the following day Texas State received a bomb threat .

No bomb was ever found on Texas A&M's campus, but the FBI says additional charges could be filed against Kelley.

The arrest came after an intensive investigation was initiated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) - College Station Resident Agency, working together with the Texas A&M University Police Department. The JTTF is comprised of the FBI, Bryan Police Department, Texas A&M University Police Department, College Station Police Department, Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Secret Service and Waller County Sheriff’s Office.

If convicted, Kelley faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney S. Mark McIntyre.
