TAMU Taking Steps To Revamp Kyle Field

Updated: Wed 12:27 PM, Oct 10, 2012

Texas A&M University announced they've selected a design firm to lead in the redevelopment of Kyle Field.

It's still unclear if the university will expand Kyle or build a whole new football stadium.

"There's something almost spiritual about Kyle Field,” said Hunter Goodwin, one of the most well-known blockers in Texas A&M History.

As a fan and former player, he wants Kyle Field to be renovated not rebuilt.

"Some of the best I had as a fan happened on Kyle Field, and they are gone the minute you tear down Kyle Field where it is today,” said Goodwin.

A sports facility design firm, called Populous, has been given the task by Texas A&M University to conduct a study on the stadium. They will present the options to the university.

Revamping the stadium is the university's effort to rebrand as one the newest members in the Southeastern Conference.

"Whatever the decision is, we are going to abide by it, knowing ultimately that you will be in one of the finest facilities in the country,” said Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M’s head football coach.

The firm is no rookie to renovating collegiate sports venues. They have worked on 80 football stadiums, including 11 in the SEC.

Construction could begin following the 2013 football season.
