TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field Begins $70M Expansion Project

COLLEGE STATION- They train people for the unthinkable to be ready to respond at a moment's notice. The Brayton Fire Training Field on the Texas A&M campus is already the world's largest live-fire training facility, and it's only getting bigger.

"The field is expanding to 296 acres," said Robert Moore, Division Director of TEEX's Emergency Services Training Institute and Chief of the Brayton Fire Training Field. That's more than double the current size, which is 120 acres.

The expansion is roughly a $70M project and will take about 20 years to complete. The growth is made possible with the help of donors like Phillips 66, which is contributing half a million dollars.

"This is a great day for Phillips 66," said Bob Herman, Senior Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment, Projects and Procurement for Phillips 66. He said the oil giant is fueling the project because their employees get so much from the facility.

"Our employees that come here from both the US and Europe, they go home at the week of training impressed, they go home tired, they go home knowing that they've got the skills and the confidence now to respond to any emergency that may come up in one of our facilities," Herman said.
