Stepping out for some shopping this Tax Free Weekend? Be sure to take an umbrella with you -- widespread scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms will be possible.
Humidity will be increasing during the overnight hours as tropical moisture builds into the Brazos Valley from the east and southeast. Due to the increased moisture, partly cloudy skies will be back in place by Saturday afternoon. That along with a moist air mass and potential rain will keep afternoon highs just below 100°. Factor in that increased moisture -- heat index values will likely run between 100° and 105° by the mid-to-late afternoon hours.
Best Chance of Rain
While we will all have a shot at some much needed rainfall, the better bet will be for the southern, central, and western parts of the Brazos Valley.
Below is a look at the Friday evening run of our KBTX PinPoint Computer Forecast Model. Rain chances will start around the noon hour -- likely with showers in the southern fringe of the area -- and then spread north to northwestward during the afternoon hours.
As the afternoon begins to turn to evening, any showers and thunderstorms that managed to form will start to fall apart. Rain chances will come to a close shortly after 7pm.
Strong Thunderstorms Possible
While severe weather is not anticipated, should a thunderstorm manage to form, it could become briefly strong.
Any strong thunderstorm that can form could bring a brief, heavy downpour, thunder, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds in excess of 30mph to 40mph.
This will not be an event to end, fix or even dent the drought.
That being said, it will be a band-aid for those that can find rain pass by. Any rain is good at this point of the drought.
Not everyone will see rain on Saturday, but there should be, at least, a few showers and possible thunderstorms in the area before the day is over.
