NEW ORLEANS, LA The Fish Drill Team of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets has again won the national drill competition meet hosted annually by Tulane University’s NROTC Battalion. The meet attracts teams — mostly made up of upper classmen — from throughout the country.
The meet includes several unit and individual events that are judged by senior enlisted Marines whose knowledge of the drill manual and drill executions ensures a tough competition, officials noted.
The Fish Drill Team, which includes only first-year cadets — men and women — was selected as the winner in every category of the Feb. 28 competition, except “inspection,” in which it placed second.
It also won the championship last year and has been a frequent winner of the annual event over the past several decades.
"We are extremely proud of our cadets on the Fish Drill Team and their National Championship victory — something that has become the standard for our drill team," said Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez, Jr., Commandant of the Corps of Cadets and a 1979 Texas A&M graduate. "Congratulations to all of the Class of ’17 cadets who worked tirelessly since the beginning of the school year to achieve such an outstanding victory.”
The general also saluted the Fish Drill Team advisers ”who trained, coached and mentored our Class of ’17 FDT to another national championship in a methodical, disciplined and professional manner.”
