Aggie parents visiting The Texas A&M University campus for Parents’ Weekend Saturday (April 13), can stop by for a restful respite at two open houses scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon.
Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin and Dr. Karin C. Loftin and Vice President for Student Affairs and Mrs. Joe Weber will host open houses to welcome Aggie parents. Visitors can take a break from the many activities planned for families and visit with the university’s president and the vice president most directly involved in student activities.
The president’s and vice president’s homes are located adjacent to each other on Throckmorton Street on the south side of the campus.
Open houses have long been a tradition during Parents’ Weekend. An open house was held for Aggie moms each Mother’s Day from 1919 until 1969. At that time, graduation was changed to early May, so the open house program moved to April and has continued to expand through the years beyond the traditional Corps of Cadets flower pinning, chapel services and military reviews for moms. It now includes an entire weekend of activities for the whole family.
In addition to the two open houses, Parents’ Weekend activities, which begin Friday (April 12), include the annual Aggie Moms’ Boutique, concerts by the Singing Cadets and various Aggie bands and talent shows. The three-day observance concludes Sunday (April 14) with the presentation of a host of awards and naming of the Aggie Parents of the Year.
