Texas A&M University Trombone Choir Performs Spring Concert

The Texas A&M University Trombone Choir will perform its spring semester concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan on April 9.

The ensemble is comprised of 15 student trombone players who rehearse weekly and perform annual concerts throughout the Bryan-College Station area. Members of the choir come from cities throughout the state of Texas, bringing a wealth of experience and talent to the ensemble. The ensemble will perform music by Anton Bruckner, Scott Joplin, John C Heed, Danny Elfman and Brad Edwards.

“I am very excited to present this concert. In the past, the trombone choir has always performed on the TAMU Small Ensembles concerts. This marks the first concert performance sponsored by the trombone choir” says David Wilborn, ensemble director and trombone professor at Texas A&M. “Also, we’ve never had 15 members in the choir. The students are really enjoying the success of the ensemble. “

Members of the Prairie View A&M University Trombone Choir have also been invited to perform as guests on the program. Their director, trombone professor Jeff Freeman, will perform selections by Chris Culver, Tommy Pederson, John Philip Sousa, and Samuel Ward.

Among the highlights of the concert will be a world premiere performance of “Prairie Nights” by 2012 A&M music composition graduate, Derik Kendall. Also, both university choirs will combine to perform a finale of antiphonal music by Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli. The concert is presented in conjunction with the celebration of International Trombone Week.

The concert is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan. The church is located at 1100 Carter Creek Parkway. Admission is free. For more information, contact David Wilborn at wilborn@tamu.edu
