Texas Task Force 1 Gets New Director

Texas Task Force 1 has a new leader, and its the person who has been in charge since the resignation of its old leader.

Billy Parker has been in the interim director of the state's urban search and rescue team based at Texas A&M. Thursday, it was announced he was going to be the permanent director.

His predecessor, Bob McKee, resigned during an investigation into an anonymous complaint filed about him to a third-party service used by the Texas Engineering Extension Service. That investigation continues despite McKee's resignation.

Parker has been with TEEX for three decades. The service notes in a press release he is "widely recognized as a pioneer and expert in the field of urban search and rescue." His leadership of TX-TF1 during deployments like the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina were also recognized in the announcement.

The Texas A&M System Board of Regents gave Parker its Regents Fellows Service Award in 2006.
