Mark your calendar for March 23-24, 2012, and enjoy going back in time to the years 1928 -1931 when Henry Ford mass produced over 5 million Model A automobiles.
Model A's and their owners from Victoria, San Antonio and Houston will join the Piney Wood Model A Ford Club from northern Harris County as it hosts the 44th annual Poor Boy Tour. More than 75 Model A's are expected to enjoy the back roads of Washington County and downtown Brenham. Wave as they go by and you will be treated to the famous AHOOGA horn sound and lots of smiles.
Friday, March 23, the group will enjoy a welcome dinner at the Washington County Fairgrounds Event Center. Saturday morning cars will line up at the Event Center and travel to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site for tours and a catered lunch. They'll return to Brenham to explore the downtown area that afternoon. A final banquet and entertainment at the Fairgrounds Event Center will close the tour. If you want to take pictures of these great cars or speak with their owners, catch them at one of these stops.
Back in 1968 the San Antonio and Houston Model "A" clubs agreed to create an annual tour that would be more economical for the participants. It had become evident that families of both clubs were not attending the larger car tours because of rising costs and the need to take time from work or use vacation days to attend the tour. The idea of a "Poor Boy Tour" was born with some very simple guidelines ... they would be held annually in the early spring between Houston and San Antonio and within 50 miles north or south of highway 90. In 1974, the Victoria Model A Club was formed and became the third host club. In 1987, the Piney Wood Model A Ford Club became part of the group.
