MADISONVILLE, MADISON COUNTY Three people are under arrest after Madisonville Police busted a large scale counterfeit check cashing operation on Monday.
According to investigators, police were called to the Wells Fargo bank in Madisonville around 2:30 Monday afternoon. Staff at the bank told cops that there were people trying to cash fake checks in the drive-thru. Corporal Hector Camarillo tried to talk to the people in the vehicle, but it drove off. Two suspects fled in the car, another fled on foot. All three suspects were caught just minutes later.
Investigators say there was a large amount of counterfeit checks inside the vehicle. They were taken as evidence.
34-year-old James Wood, 30-year-old Mario Alanis and 39-year-old Jessica Rodriguez were arrested and charged with Evading Arrest in a motor vehicle and Forgery. Roriguez had outstanding warrants out of Guadalupe County for financial related crimes.
Investigators discovered that Monday's incident was one of many. The three have been llegedly producing and cashing counterfeit checks all over Texas for several years. Due to multiple jurisdictions being involved, MPD contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to request assistance. Due to the timely assistance from the FBI and ICE, further charges could be filed on all three subjects in Madison and other counties.
“Thanks to the hard work by MPD and the assistance of local, state, and federal agencies, MPD successfully uncovered and solved a large scale counterfeit check operation that hundreds of people and businesses all across the State of Texas have fallen victim too," said Lieutenant Jonathan Zitzmann.
