Update: Funeral services have been scheduled for Bill Weiss. Visitation services will be held Thursday, June 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services have been set for Friday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham. Weiss will be buried following the funeral service in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Bill Weiss, the long-time Corporate Media Relations Manager for Blue Bell Creameries died of injuries he suffered in a Monday afternoon traffic collision on Interstate 10 just east of Houston, near Baytown.
Steve James, the vice-president of Institutional Sales is still in Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, and had surgery overnight Monday.
Reports from numerous law enforcement agencies, and Blue Bell CEO Paul Kruse, say that Weiss and James had a flat tire and were changing it when they were struck by another vehicle. Both men were life flighted to Houston Memorial Hermann but Weiss died en route. The accident happened at about 2:30 pm Monday.
Kruse said this was a ‘a real shock’ and a ‘sad day for Blue Bell Creameries.’
Weiss was born near Brenham in Washington County. He began working part time at Blue Bell while still in high school and when going to Blinn College. Upon graduating from Texas A&M in 1986 with a degree in marketing, he went to work with Joske's in San Antonio and then Dillard’s Department Stores in store management for 10 years, mostly in the Austin, Texas area.
In 1997, Weiss returned to Brenham as the media buyer for Blue Bell's in house advertising agency. He was named the Blue Bell Corporate Media Relations Manager in 2003. In 2007, he served as the chair of the 100th anniversary celebration.
The accident remains under investigation.
