March 3 Update:

A major road in College Station is back open after an auto-pedestrian accident that sent a Texas A&M student to the hospital.

Investigators say earlier this afternoon, a Texas A&M student and her friend were crossing the 1800 Southwest Parkway from north to south when the driver of a Nissan Maxima, 24 year-old Ashley Acosta, hit the student, 22-year-old Ying Xu. Xu was taken to College Station Medical Center for serious head injuries.

Police believe a vehicle in front of the Nissan was slowing down to allow the two to cross, and Acosta tried to go around the vehicle in front and accidentally struck Xu.

An accident reconstruction took place throughout the afternoon and Southwest Parkway was closed for several hours.

No charges have been filed.
