Two East Texas men were killed when their car slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler in Leon County.

According to DPS, the accident happened Sunday around 5:45 a.m. on Highway 7 about 16 miles east of Centerville.

Marcus Nichols was reportedly driving behind the Mack truck as both were heading east. As the truck attempted to turn right onto a private road, Nichols and his passenger, James Dewayne Johnson, ran into the back of the truck.

Nichols and Johnson, both 30, died at the scene. Nichols was from Lufkin and Johnson hailed from Jasper. DPS reports both men were wearing seat belts.

The truck was out of Oklahoma and was driven by a Palestine man, who was not injured.
