The Cameron Police Department is currently investigating an incident of Child Endangerment which occurred on 8-5-14 in Cameron.
At approximately 12:09PM, the Cameron Police Department received a call of two toddlers, a male and a female-both 2 years of age running down the inside lane of the 900 Block of U.S. 190/SH36.
Traffic was dodging the children as no adult was in sight. This is a major truck artery with the entrance to a large truck stop being in the 1000 Blk of US190/SH36.
According to witnesses, an 18—wheeler rounded the curve at this location, saw the children, locked the truck’s brakes down, missing the children by less than a foot. Cameron resident, James Blair Jr., witnessed the near miss, ran out into the traffic lanes and grabbed both children, taking them to their business which is situated in the same location.
Upon arrival of the police department, officers began trying to find the location where the children originated from. It took officers some two hours to locate a responsible party for the children.
The investigation revealed the children had no adult supervision for almost 5 plus hours prior to the incident where they were found. The Cameron Police Department is currently investigating the incident with charges of Endangering a Child filed against two individuals from Cameron later today. Once the charges have been filed, the names of the responsible party will be released to the public.
The case has also been turned over to the Child Protective Services who have opened an active investigation.
The children have been removed from the home.
The case is being investigation by Det. Doug Smith.
