Two fires in Calvert that hit the same apartment community in the past two weeks now have the State Fire Marshal's Office investigating a possible case of arson.
Apartment number 818 and 820 are the latest homes at the 900 block of West Texas Street in Calvert to be destroyed by fire. No residents were harmed when the blaze ignited around 5 Friday night; one family, however, is now without a home.
“I was at work when I got the call and by the time I got home, it was gone,” resident Shaquitta Gilmore said.
Friday night, Gilmore and her children were trying to find anything salvageable inside. “What am I going to do? Where am I going to live? I got three kids, I don't want to go stay with anybody and be a burden, but we're going to have to go somewhere,” said Gilmore.
Just two weeks before, seven people were displaced on the same street after a fire ripped through two apartment homes.
Calvert's Fire Chief tells us the State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
