US BMX Olympian Killed In Crash

A Conroe resident was killed overnight in an accident in Montgomery County.

Police say after 2 a.m., a 2006 Toyota Tundra left the roadway on Old Montgomery Road and crashed through a gate of a private residence. The residence's gas meter was broken off, the power line to the gate was damaged and several trees were uprooted.

The driver was identified as Kyle Ray Bennet , 33, of Conroe.

Bennett is a former Olympic BMX Cyclist and international BMX champion.
Bennett was named captain of the US BMX Olympic team in 2008.

According to DPS, Bennett, was not wearing a seatbelt and was driving at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.
