Washington County Sheriff's Department officials have learned they are the recipients of $65,000 worth of cash donations.
Several times this year the the agency made headlines for busting up marijuana growing operations in the rural part of the county.
Sheriff Otto Hanak says when working field operations where the potential for danger exists, he wants his deputies to be well trained and outfitted with the gear that will keep them safe.
"I requested that we utilize that the money specifically for tactical rifles and do away with the old items that we had in either our possession or in our vehicles and begin to train strictly with tactical rifles," said Otto Hanak, Washington County Sheriff.
Hanak learned Tuesday that $25,000 came from an anonymous donor. In April, Dow Chemical pledged $40,000 to the department because of the company's partnership with Washington County during potential hurricane evacuations.
