Water Line Work This Week in College Station

There may be some flooding on Wellborn Road and surrounding streets in College Station this week, and it's not weather related.

The city's water services department will begin unidirectional flushing of some lines Tuesday and into Wednesday in order to clean them.

Tuesday, crews will be on Wellborn Road working between FM 2818 and Graham Road. Wednesday, work will be done on FM 2818 from Wellborn to Texas Avenue.

As a result of the high-velocity flushing of the 42-inch lines, water may be on the road. Also, water users may notice a color change or a decrease in pressure as the work is being done. Water services officials note there is a slight chance of a complete loss of service for a short period for some users.

"Unidirectional Flushing is a proven technique to improve water quality by removing sediments and stale water, and improving the disinfectant residual and water clarity," according to a city press release. "Customers will experience long-lasting water quality improvements throughout the water distribution system."

College Station's utility dispatch can be reached at (979) 764-3638. It is available 24 hours-a-day.
