From rooftops to retail west Bryan is experiencing a building boom.
New things are coming on the west side including the possibility of a new Walmart Supercenter.
It's a quiet getaway just a few short minutes from the heart of Bryan but the sights of west Bryan are changing.
Monica Colson has called the Autumn Lake subdivision home for a year now.
"I like it it's nice, quiet. The drive isn't too far away from our jobs," explained Colson.
That quietness could soon change if plans move forward on a 650 home development bordering her subdivision.
It's something Colson would rather not have.
"The traffic and just I don't know we kind of like the small subdivision, so with it expanding and everything it's going to be kind of weird," she said.
Her subdivision is only about three years old and with more rooftops comes retail.
The City of Bryan is in discussions to bring a Walmart Supercenter along F-M 2818 and Villa Maria Road but no formal deal has happened yet with developers.
"I think it'll be nice. A lot of job opportunities, career opportunities," said Colson.
Others like Mark Murray of Carriage Hills are counting on more retail.
His family drives to the College Station Walmart instead of Bryan's because he says it's easier to get to.
"It's good every time something new pops up out here we're looking forward to it. It takes away a lot of travel time gas money going in to town," said Murray.
"We don't have grocery stores on that side of town... Even a new high school is being planted out there long term so I think that gives you some indication of what's coming," said Dennis Goehring.
"We like it out here," added Monica Colson.
A place thousands more could be flocking to in the coming years.
More growth is coming to the east side too.
Bryan Mayor Jason Bienski tells us several new restaurants and hotels are expressing interest in building along the Highway 6 corridor.
News 3 learned late Tuesday afternoon that the developer of the proposed 650 home subdivision is withdrawing their application for the time being and it won't be discussed at Tuesday night's council meeting.
