BURLESON COUNTY - **Update****
According to the Texas Forest Service State Fire Activity map, the fire in Burleson County is now 95% contained.
Fire Departments in Burleson County are fighting a wildfire northeast of Somerville on FM 1361, and as of Monday night the crews say they
have neared complete containment.
That's according to a representative with the Texas A&M Forest Service, who says the fire scorched about 15 acres, despite an initial mis-report of 40 to 50 acres burned. He says the fire was fueled by heavy brush and light timber.
The fire was reported around 3 pm on Monday, and is burning near the Deer Forest Community. A number of volunteer firemen have worked against extreme heat and breezy conditions to keep the flames in check - which at one point threatened at least five homes.
The Regional Fire Coordinator says that the Snook VFD took command in the firefight - no injuries have been reported and only the field has been damaged so far. He also mentioned that a local crop duster helped in keeping the flames at bay.
Texas A&M Forest Service bulldozers are on scene for use in helping to keep a perimeter, and fire crews say they are planning for a long night of watching and hoping the fire doesn't flare up again.
