BRENHAM – A woman who accused a jailer of Washington County Jailer of sexual assault will be headed back there.

Kayla Merritt, 22 of Brenham, claims the attack happened the night of July 24 while she was incarcerated. But the Texas Rangers say there is “overwhelming evidence” that indicates she lied about the attack.

The investigation was reviewed by Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller. An arrest warrant was then issued for “False Report to Police Officer”, a Class B Misdemeanor.

It is believed that Merritt has fled Brenham and may be in Mississippi.

If anyone knows her exact whereabouts, please contact Brenham Emergency Communications at 979-337-7272 or the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 979-277-6251.
