Steve Campbell is coming back home, and he’s bringing his world-renowned brass quintet with him.
“Uptown Brass,” featuring members of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 12 at Blinn College’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center (map) in Brenham. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be obtained by calling the Student Center Box Office at 979-830-4024.
The quintet consists of Campbell on tuba, R. Douglas Wright on trombone, Michael Gast on French horn and trumpeters Charles Lazarus and Douglas C. Carlsen.
Campbell, the son of Blinn College – Brenham campus Fine Arts Division Chair Larry Campbell, has been principal tuba of the Minnesota Orchestra since 2005. A Brenham High School graduate, Campbell studied at the University of Houston with David Kirk of the Houston Symphony. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he performed and toured regularly with the Boston Symphony and Pops orchestras.
