BRYAN- Kirk Holland has been holding his kids a little tighter lately.

"Hug your kids everyday," Holland said.

In December, he almost lost his four-year-old daughter, Margaret, after she had an accident on the playground at Camelot Learning Center. Holland said Margaret's jacket sleeve wrapped around her neck and caused her to be hung inside a playground slide for several minutes until she lost consciousness. He had no idea how long it took for someone to notice her. Margaret was then air-lifted to Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

"Her face was very discolored and bloodshot from being unconscious for some time," Holland said.

She survived and her father filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Since the accident, he said they've never returned to the daycare.

Tuesday night, the state shutdown the daycare because they could not maintain the minimum standards. Holland said he is not surprised it was closed.

"I think we expected them to close it for the amount of complaints that they had and the way things were handled," he said.

This isn't the first major incident the daycare has had. A five-month-old was reportedly dropped by a caregiver in September. He suffered severe head injuries and underwent brain surgery. Since then the daycare has been closely monitored by the state.

Licensed child care facilities are usually inspected once a year, but Camelot Learning Center has had so many infractions, its been inspected 15 times in the past two years. A spokeswoman with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services says this number of inspections is large.

"The more frequent visits we made to the center, the more deficiencies we found," said Public Information Officer Julie Moody.

We reached out to the daycare, but they had no comment.

Moody said the daycare has 15 days to appeal the decision, but must remain closed during the entire appeals process.
