A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect until midnight for Lee County. Strong thunderstorms will continue to be possible, across the Brazos Valley, this evening. Winds in excess of 40-60mph are the main concern, within the strongest activity.Heavy rainfall between 1" and 3" has the potential to cause localized flash flooding in a few locations.
NEW ORLEANS The Coast Guard says it has closed a section of the Mississippi River southeast of New Orleans so a tugboat that sank over the weekend can be salvaged.
Spokesman Jonathan Lally says a mile-long stretch of the river was closed around 6 a.m. Tuesday near the town of Venice. The closure was expected to last until around 6 p.m., and it was unclear how many vessels may be affected.
The tug sank Saturday. The river was closed from Saturday afternoon until Sunday night as authorities searched for the tug and made sure it didn't pose a navigation hazard. The sunken tug was located Monday.
Some vessels anchored and waited out the weekend closure. Others, including a cruise ship bound for New Orleans, were re-routed.
