College Station - Four College Station High School students recently won state awards from the Press Women of Texas for their work for The Catamount newspaper.
Freshman Kayla Kurmaskie received second place for her sports story on the tennis team captain.
Sophomore Megan Paradowski placed second for her centerspread design and photography on school spirit.
Sophomores Lily Parsi and Paradowski placed second for their front page news story on the opening of the school.
Sophomore David Rambo placed second in cartooning.
These underclassmen competed against established journalism programs from 5A schools such as Cy Fair, Allen and Duncanville, and they were the only 3A students recognized in their categories.
The Edith Fox King Press Women of Texas/National Federation of Press Women’s High School Communications Contest seeks to recognize students for their best work in journalism. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed the contest on its “NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities.”
