Thousands Get Golden Piece of Aggie Tradition

Parent's Weekend is underway at Texas A&M University. Friday was also Aggie Ring Day.

Thousands of Aggie students are getting a golden circle of Texas A&M tradition. On Ring Day, waiting feels like an eternity.

"It's, like, taking forever," laughed Sophomore Rae Rupp. The biology major can't stop smiling.

"I'm ready for it. I'm ready to move my ring over," said Rupp.

Rupp, who wants to go into Optometry, was first through the gate in her group. She found her section of the ring table. A volunteer and Texas A&M University Athletic Director Eric Hyman were there to get her checked in.

A small moment for a big accomplishment. For many Aggies, getting their ring is a personal moment they share with their families. Aggie Ring Day, though, is something you share with a couple thousand of your closest friends.

"This is our biggest ring day ever," said Kathryn Greenwade, Vice President of the Association of Former Students.

"[Friday], we will give out 4100 rings. We have 4500 in the total order this time, but today we will hand out 4100 rings," explained Greenwade.

The excitement is noticeable.

"I'm so excited. I'm going to show everyone!" laughs Rupp.

Two of those rings are being handed out during Saturday's Maroon & White game. Luke Joeckel and DaMontrae Moore are getting theirs during the second half of the game. You can catch it on ESPN starting at 2 pm.
