LUBBOCK, Texas Storms in north and west parts of Texas packing winds topping 80 mph have left behind hail and power outages but no immediate reports of anyone hurt.
Dallas-based Oncor had nearly 24,000 customers without power Thursday - mainly in the Fort Worth area.
The National Weather Service says the Lubbock area had 82 mph winds. Forecaster Gary Skwira says winds of 84 mph were reported near Wolfforth. Friona had hail the size of baseballs.
Part of the roof of Lubbock Heart Hospital was blown off. Patients were moved to other parts of the hospital. The roof of a Motor Inns of America in Lubbock partly caved in after guests had been evacuated.
Several hundred Lubbock Power & Light customers lost electricity.
