NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Rain and swift river currents are
keeping divers from searching the Arkansas River for two
construction workers missing and presumed drowned.
Three workers fell into the river between Little Rock and North
Little Rock when scaffolding beneath the Interstate 430 bridge over
the river collapsed yesterday. A third worker's body was recovered
about eight hours after the collapse.
John Rehrauer is a spokesman for the Pulaski County Sheriff's
Office. He says "there will not be an active search" today.
The three were employed by Oscar Renda Contracting of Roanoke,
Texas. The men were working on a project to install a water main
beneath the bridge for the Central Arkansas Water Utility.
