FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The union that represents mechanics and
bag handlers at American Airlines has rejected a contract proposal
that called for lump-sum payments but no salary increases.
American says it offered to increase holidays and sick leave
while recognizing "the economic realities facing the industry and
our company."
American's parent company lost $328 million in the first quarter
of the year, mostly due to record prices for jet fuel.
