FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The union that represents mechanics and
bag handlers at American Airlines has rejected a contract proposal
that called for lump-sum payments but no salary increases.
American says it offered to increase holidays and sick leave
while recognizing "the economic realities facing the industry and
American's parent company lost $328 million in the first quarter
of the year, mostly due to record prices for jet fuel.
