As the number of salmonella victims in the U.S. expands, the hot focus now by federal investigators is on imports from Mexico.
Sources familiar with the investigation say the food and drug administration has alerted growers and the brokers who handle their products that, as of monday, inspectors will stop shipments from mexico to the U.S. of ingredients common to mexican cuisine.
The FDA says the number of reported cases rose by 21 in the past week, to 943.
They are looking beyond tomatoes to such produce as jalapeno
peppers, cilantro, and Serrano peppers.
