LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Officials in Portugal are halting their
investigation into the case of a 4-year-old British girl who
vanished last year.
Madeleine McCann was reported missing during her family's
vacation in southern Portugal. A statement from Portuguese
officials says detectives have found no evidence of a crime during
their 14-month investigation.
The statement says detectives also found no reason to charge any
of the three people named as suspects: Madeleine's parents as well
as a local resident, Robert Murat.
Portuguese officials say the case will remain on hold unless new
evidence comes to light.
The McCanns have waged an international campaign to find their
daughter. Lawyers for the family may now ask a judge to grant them
access to the police file. Officials have said it runs to 10
volumes.
