House Passes Tax Relief, Battle With Senate Next

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House has passed a $60 billion tax relief
bill with incentives for solar, wind and other renewable energy
sources and extension of many popular tax breaks, such as credit
for college tuition.
The House action was its third this week dealing with critical
tax issues. It has also approved adjustments to the alternative
minimum tax to shield millions of people from that levy and offered
tax relief to disaster victims.
The future of the measures is uncertain. The Senate passed its
tax break legislation earlier this week and insists that the
legislation won't become law unless the House accepts the Senate
version.
