HOUSTON -- Former first lady Barbara Bush was moved from the intensive care unit to a private room Saturday after successful
open heart surgery.
The 83-year-old wife of former President George H.W. Bush had surgery to replace her aortic valve on Thursday.
Gale Smith, a spokeswoman for The Methodist Hospital in Houston, says Mrs. Bush was up and walking Saturday morning, eating and in good spirits.
Smith says Mrs. Bush could remain in the Houston hospital for as long as another week.
You can leave your well wishes for the former First Lady at the George Bush Presidential Library's website. A link can be found below this story.
