GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - Law enforcement officials are searching
for an inmate they said escaped from the University of Texas Medical Branch prison medical center in Galveston.
The public information director for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Michelle Lyons, says Joshua Duane, 21, Barnes, of Amarillo, escaped late Saturday night.
Lyons says a vent within the wall in Barnes' room had been removed and several blankets were tied together, going up to the roof. She says Barnes was in his room during an inmate check at 8:15 p.m.
Barnes was being treated for injuries he got during a fight Wednesday. He's serving a 35-year sentence for seven burglaries and
an aggravated assault charge and has a history of escapes.
