BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - President Barack Obama is paying tribute to the 29 men who lost their lives in a West Virginia coal mine explosion, promising to improve industry safety.
In excerpts of his remarks given out in advance, Obama tells mourners that officials at all levels of government must ensure there are no more such tragedies. He has urged federal officials to strengthen mining regulations riddled with loopholes. He says it won't bring back the 29 men who died, but might prevent another such tragedy.
