The Austin American-Statesman reported President Barack Obama plans to headline two Texas fundraisers Aug. 9 for Democrats.
According to an e-mail obtained by the newspaper, the president will attend a Houston fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee as well as one in Austin for the Democratic National Committee.
Rep. Garnet Coleman, D-Houston, said the visit is "much welcomed."
"I'm glad he's coming," Coleman said Monday. "For the things that Texas needs, he has been very good," including addressing the needs of people in a tough economy.
"It's always good to have the president of the United States come to your state," Coleman said.
Katy Bacon, spokeswoman for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White, said he isn't scheduled to be in Houston or Austin for the president's visit.
