MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Police in Montgomery, Ala., are promising to rebuild the home that they tore apart, looking for a suspect in the fatal shootings of three people -- or at least reimburse the owner of the home for the damage.
They finally left the home early today, apparently without the man they believed was inside. Desmonte Leonard is charged in the shooting deaths of three people near Auburn University over the weekend. The victims included two former Auburn football players.
Dozens of police cruisers and other vehicles swarmed around the house after police got two 911 calls saying that someone who looked like Leonard was in the house or nearby.
They spent hours firing tear gas, using thermal imaging and sending tactical teams inside. They drilled holes and tore through pieces of the house.
