Astronaut Who Graduated From UND Returns to Space

GRAND FORKS, N.D. University of North Dakota graduate Karen Nyberg has returned to space.

The 43-year-old 1994 UND graduate traveled to the International Space Station aboard a space shuttle in 2008. On Tuesday, she completed her second journey to the space station aboard a Russian Soyuz capsule that blasted off from Kazakhstan, carrying her and astronauts from Russia and Italy.

They will conduct a variety of experiments over the next six months. Nyberg also will deliver the keynote address at UND's summer commencement ceremony on Aug. 2 from space.
