WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has begun a lengthy overseas trip that will take her first to France for an international conference on Syria, then to Asia for regional meetings and finally to the Middle East, where she will see Egypt's new president and visit Israel.
Clinton left Washington on Thursday for Paris, where she will participate in a meeting of the Friends of Syria, a group of nations trying to end the ongoing crisis in the country. From there, she heads to Tokyo for an Afghanistan donors conference on Sunday.
While in Asia, Clinton will also visit Mongolia, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, where she will attend a Southeast Asian security gathering. She will then travel to Egypt and wrap up her trip in Israel.
